Arthur Paul Gies November 16, 1948 – December 25, 2009

Long-time Ft. Collins resident and community member, Arthur Paul Gies passed away with family by his side on December 25, 2009 in the comfort of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado in Grand Junction. Art was 61.

Art was born on November 16, 1948 and raised in Loveland. He married Sandra (Fuqua) on August 9, 1969. They spent 40 years together building a family and working in the community, first for Kodak and then as a driver for the Poudre School District. Art was an active member of the Poudre Valley Antique Automobile Club and a dedicated Troop 12 and Wood Badge leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

In 2004, Art and Sandi relocated to Fruita, CO where he drove for the Grand Valley Transit and then earned his CSU Master Gardener certification and went to work with Mesa County. Art and Sandi were members of the Colorado West VMCCA with their 1918 Dodge and 1957 Buick.

Art is survived by his beloved wife Sandra; children Gretchen and Brian; grandchildren Tyler (5) and Margaret (7 months); sisters Julia and Connie; and nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Art, mother Mayta, and stepfather Waynard Huff.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday December 31st at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ft. Collins, CO. Visitation will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Wednesday at Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home. Interment Loveland Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Arthur Gies Memorial Fund in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home.
